KCC was the first community college to receive the Interstate Renewable Energy Council Clean Energy Training Provider of the Year Award.
KCC is the only solar-PV training program in Illinois and one of only three in the 18-state region accredited by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC).
KCC is a member of the Midwest Solar Training Network.

“I would say Renewable is a great field to go into. it's not going away. Every year I've been in, it's getting more and more jobs. I don't have to worry about my job getting canceled. I like logic. Why things work, how they work. All the classes at KCC I attended personally were all hands-on. (Wind turbines) are mechanical. They (have) rotating parts, so things constantly break. You need to constantly switch things, grease stuff up. It's basically like working on a car but 300 feet in the air and way bigger components. I would say that KCC has made a great difference for me just in terms of just even starting out. I've managed to move up pretty quickly. We have three tiers at my company and I'm already on the last tier and I have only been there for three years. It definitely sets you apart.”
